"OMG" Campaign to Curb Distraction-Related Car Accidents in Modesto, Nation

Изображение
According to   California Causality , half of all teenage drivers admit to text while driving. Texting at the wheel increases their risks for a   car accident in Modesto   and elsewhere by nearly 25 percent. California Causality has been pushing for more teen driver education for quite some time now. Teenagers face some of the most severe risks for an accident on our roadways. Many organizations continue to share concern regarding the safety of these young drivers. Our Modesto teen car accident attorneys would like to tell you about a new campaign, "OMG," that was recently launched by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). The "OMG" campaign is made up of two public service announcements (PSAs) that will be airing at roughly 550 Regal Cinema movie theaters across the country, on 12,000 pump-top screens owned that as well as on the Distraction.gov website all through December. "Teen drivers are particularly vulnerable to distracted driving, which is wh

Have a Safe and Fun Fourth of July Weekend From Modesto Personal Injury Attorneys

Modesto personal injury attorneys would like to wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July. We would also like to ask that everyone be extra cautious during this time whether you're driving, enjoying the holiday by the pool, out on the water or staying local and watching some of the fireworks events in Modesto. It is during these summer months that residents experience an increased risk for injury in Modesto and elsewhere throughout the state. Your risk for a car accident increases drastically during this holiday weekend. During these holiday weekends there is not only an increase in traffic flow, but more drunk drivers take to our roads than any other time during the year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were more than 11,000 deaths in 2009 because of car accidents that involved an impaired driver. A number of these accidents occurred during the holidays. These accidents accounted for more than 30 percent of all of the traffic fatalities fo

Modesto Bicycle Accident Leaves Officers Looking for Hit-and-Run Driver

Изображение
Officers with the Modesto Police Department are asking for help from the community. They're looking for the driver who is responsible for the death of a bicyclist. The   Modesto bicycle accident   has been described as a hit-and-run accident in which an bicyclist was left to die after being struck by a pickup truck just before 7 a.m. Officers say the vehicle they're looking for is a white pickup truck that may have some damage to the front bumper, according to SF Gate. If you have any information, you're urged to contact local authorities. Our Modesto bicycle accident lawyers understand that bicyclists are free to pedal around town throughout the year.  https://askcompetentlawyer.com/civil-litigation/  California's ideal weather is perfect for cycling. Unfortunately, these year-round conditions of great weather means more bikes on the road, which contributes to the alarmingly high number of bicycle accidents that we see each year. Motorists and bicyclists are urged to

Social Networking Sites Can Harm Your Personal Injury Case

Изображение
Social networking has revolutionized the way many Modesto residents are connecting with each other, sharing personal information and keeping in touch. Unfortunately, social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are also causing a myriad of problems for personal injury and workers compensation victims. Insurance companies are savvy when it comes to social networking sites. They are now using information that people post on public profiles to deny or limit payments for car accidents, truck accidents, workers' compensation and other injuries.  https://askcompetentlawyer.com/intellectual-property-rights/  For example, if an insurance company approves a car accident victim for a settlement and she posts: "Healing quickly, headed to the gym this morning!" on her Facebook page, an insurance company can use this as justification to deny further benefits. Although this act is reprehensible, it is not necessarily illegal. If you publicly declare any information about your in

Motorists Still Main Cause of Pedestrian Accidents in Modesto and Elsewhere

Изображение
Researchers are studying a new type of   pedestrian accident in Modesto . Experts with Transportation For America are looking at the number of "distracted" pedestrians who have been killed in recent years. The number of distraction-related pedestrian deaths is minimal in comparison to the problem as a whole. Researchers have determined that the number of headphone-wearing pedestrians who have been killed in traffic-related accidents in the last six years has tripled. While it may sound like this problem is becoming epidemic, the truth of the matter is that these types of accidents still only accounted for about 0.3 percent of all pedestrian deaths during the study time. From 2000 to 2009, there were nearly 48,000 pedestrians killed on U.S. roadways in traffic-related accidents.  https://askcompetentlawyer.com/civil-litigation/  Of the 48,000 pedestrian fatalities over the 9-year study, only about 115 were the result of pedestrians wearing headphones, according to researcher

The chain-reaction crash occurred just after 10pm last night on I-505 south of Putah Creek Road.  https://askcompetentlawyer.com/  The California Highway Patrol stated that both drugs and alcohol played a role in the crash. The crash began when one car unexpectedly spun out of control and hit a guardrail, said the CHP. The driver was suspected of DUI. From there, two other vehicles hit the first car and then a motorcyclist hit a freeway divider while trying to avoid the accident. He died at the scene, according to the CHP. Several other people who suffered injuries were treated and released from local hospitals. Drunk Drivers Must Be Held Responsible All too often, drugs and alcohol play a role in terrible accidents like this one. Distracted Driving a Common Cause of Car Accidents in Modesto and Stockton

On the one-year anniversary of the launch of  FocusDriven , a national non-profit that advocates for victims of distracted driving, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood promised to keep distracted driving "at the top of his agenda," the  Modesto Bee  reports. " Distracted driving  is a deadly epidemic and when it comes to road safety, we will not take a backseat to anyone," said LaHood. "That's why distracted driving will continue to be a major part of DOT's robust safety agenda." With an annual estimate of 5,500 motorist killed in car accidents linked to  distracted driving  and another 500,000 left injured,  Modesto car accident lawyers  understand the risks motorists face each day as a result of careless drivers. California, along with 29 other states and Washington D.C., has banned texting for all drivers. State lawmakers have also banned use of a hand-held device for all drivers.  https://askcompetentlawyer.com/   The law further prohibi

Response Time Enhanced by National Program to Reduce Severe Injuries in Modesto Car Accidents

Изображение
Our   Modesto car accident attorneys  know that the "golden hour," or the first 60 minutes after a car crash, are the most critical in terms of saving or losing a life. States that are participating in the Yellow Dot car program are seeing some success in saving lives, according to a recent article in   USA Today.  This is especially true for senior citizens involved in car accidents who can't always communicate special needs to first responders. The Yellow Dot program signals rescuers to a folder in the glove compartment which contains medical and other pertinent information, which allows the first responder to act quickly in caring for the victim. California does not currently participate in the Yellow Dot program, but citizens involved in car accidents in Stockton, Modesto and elsewhere throughout the state would highly benefit if the program were implemented since California typically leads the nation in traffic fatalities each year. In 2009, the National Highway Tr

Modesto Car Accidents often caused by Fog, Inclement Weather

Изображение
From a   foggy morning in Turlock   to the ongoing hearty ski season snowfalls blanketing Yosemite, to Sequoia national parks and beyond, drivers in Modesto, Stockton and the surrounding areas face a variety of driving conditions that can impact their risk of being involved in a serious or fatal accident. Our Stockton car accident attorneys know that with snow and wet weather comes increased chances of a serious or fatal Central California car accident. Sure ski resort owners are thrilled. As are Modesto water officials who see the winter snow and rain as "money in the bank" for the dry weather season ahead. https://askcompetentlawyer.com/  With that said, the California Highway Patrol is less impressed with copious amounts of rain, fog and snow we've experienced this winter, and more concerned about the safety of Modesto drivers. In 2007, nearly 8,000 people were injured in weather-related California car accidents. And, more than 100 fatalities were tied to car acciden

Pledge to Fight Car Accidents in Modesto through National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Изображение
Every year, the   Modesto Injury Attorneys   and the  National Safety Council   (NSC) works to raise awareness about the dangers of driving while distracted. During the month of April, we urge drivers to hang up the phone behind the wheel and participate in National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. With this year's anti-distraction campaign, we are urging drivers throughout the state to take the pledge to drive distraction free. https://askcompetentlawyer.com/business-torts/  The campaign may only be a month long, but we're asking drivers to make the pledge for life. In 2010, there were about 3,000 people who were killed in distraction-related car accidents in Modesto and elsewhere. The saddest thing about these kinds of traffic accidents is that they're completely preventable. All drivers have to do is toss away their cell phone or text messaging device while the vehicle is in drive. The first step toward making this change is to help drivers to understand the very re

California Cell Phone Tickets and Your Insurance Rates

Insurance companies are coming after your money! In the state of California, it's illegal for all drivers to talk on a cell phone and to text message behind the wheel. According to the   Insurance Institute for Highway Safety   (IIHS), we are one of 10 states with such a law on the books. If the law isn't enough to keep you from using you phone at the wheel, drop your phone and grab your wallet! According to FOX Business, insurance companies are now coming after drivers who text behind the wheel. Our Modesto car accident attorneys have talked about the dangers that accompany distracted driving. https://askcompetentlawyer.com/  Distracted driving increases your risks for an accident. You're 4 times more likely to crash when using a hand-held cell phone and 23 times more likely to crash when text messaging. In California, the text messaging and cell phone law are primary offenses, meaning that an officer can stop a driver and ticket them for it. Still, there are far too man

Number of Modesto Car Accidents likely to Rebound with Economy

Изображение
The   National Safety Council  is reporting that deaths caused by motor vehicle crashes were down 3 percent nationwide in 2010. Unemployment rates are still considerably higher for Modesto and Stockton when compared to the rest of the country but our   Modesto personal injury lawyers  are optimistic that things are getting better for this area. As the economy recovers, the risk of Modesto car accidents will continue to increase. In fact, the NSC found the accident rate did increase 2 percent year-over-year as the economic recovery gained steam during the last three months of 2010. While the agency reports motor vehicle fatalities were at a record low in 2010, still more than 34,000 motorists lost their lives. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will report the nation's official statistics this summer. Though it is the fourth consecutive year to report a decrease in deaths, it is believed that the struggling economy has had a lot to do with it. "As encouraging

Stockton Pedestrian Accident Takes out Two -- Officers Investigate

Изображение
A recent   pedestrian accident in Stockton   is being investigated by the Stockton Police Department. In the accident, two pedestrians were hit by a van at the intersection of Market Street and El Dorado Street just before 3:00 p.m., according to   The Record . All that was left at the scene of the accident was a bunch of crumbled cookies and a shoe. Traffic was redirected as the American Medical Response and the Stockton Fire Department worked to rescue the pedestrians. The driver of the van told officers that the brakes in his van slipped and he was unable to stop in time. These types of accidents are exactly what researchers at the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety have been tackling pedestrian safety. According to one of its recent reports, speed is one of the most influential factors in car-pedestrian accidents. Vehicle speed and pedestrian accidents have been studied extensively for decades now, but many of the older studies are antiquated and do not reflect changes in technolo

Children and Adults at High Risk of Summer Bicycle Accidents in Modesto

Изображение
Modesto bicycle accidents can cause severe and sometimes fatal injuries, especially to children who ride bikes for pleasure. Motorists should always watch for bicyclists because they are sometimes difficult to see and may appear out of nowhere. Personal injury lawyers in Stockton and elsewhere in the state know that bicyclists have the same rights to the roadways as motorists but also are held to the same rules as other vehicles. Children may not always know the rules of the road which puts them at higher risk than other cyclists. The Modesto Bee recently reported about a 12 year-old girl who may not have known she needed to stop for a red light at an intersection before crossing. The young girl remains in critical condition at a Bay Area hospital after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing over Briggsmore Avenue. The girl was thrown from her bicycle at impact and was found lying unconscious in the street. Two nurses who were passing by at the time revived her. She was transf
